The UNLV men’s golf team achieved a second-place finish at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Lihue, Hawaii, after recording an even-par 280 in the final round on Saturday. The event was hosted by the University of Hawai’i at the Ocean Course at Hokuala.
Junior Mason Snyder led the Rebels with rounds of 68, 67, and 69, finishing third individually with a season-low total score of 6-under-par 204. “Snyder finished third on a season-low to-par effort of 6-under 204 following his third straight day under par with a final-round 1-under 69,” according to UNLV athletics.
Zach Little, also a junior, posted scores of 70, 69, and 71 to tie for 14th place at even-par. The team’s top performers included four golfers finishing within the top-25: Trevor Lewis and senior Wyatt Plattner both tied for 21st after ending two strokes over par.
The Rebels ended with a team score of 5-under-par 835, tying Texas A&M for second place and surpassing three teams ranked in the national top-25: New Mexico (No.19), Utah (No.23), and San Diego State (No.22). Loyola Marymount claimed first place with a score of 10-under-par 830. “Loyola Marymount pulled away with the team crown at 10-under 830 and individual medalist honors taken by Trevor Algya at 8-under 272 through 54 holes.”
This result marks UNLV’s second consecutive top-three finish this spring season and their second tournament finishing ahead of multiple nationally ranked opponents.
Other contributors included junior Ryan Abuan, who tied for forty-ninth place (+7), while senior Billy Smith competed as an individual and tied for forty-fourth (+6).
UNLV is scheduled to return to host the Southern Highlands Collegiate from March 1–3 at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
Throughout this tournament, UNLV had six under-par individual rounds—second only to Loyola Marymount among all participating teams—and matched their lowest team round of the weekend during Friday’s play with a six-under-par performance.
