The UNLV men’s golf team advanced to third place after posting a 6-under-par 274 in the second round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, held at the Ocean Course at Hokuala in Lihue, Hawaii. This score matched the lowest team round of the day.
Junior Mason Snyder led the Rebels with a 3-under 68, finishing without a bogey on the front nine for the second straight day. Senior Wyatt Plattner contributed a 2-under 68, while junior Zach Little added a 1-under 69 and also went bogey-free on the front nine. Junior Ryan Abuan completed the team’s scoring with an even-par 70.
Three UNLV players ended Friday among the top twenty individually. Snyder moved into a tie for second place at 5-under overall, just one shot behind Loyola Marymount’s Nateeshvar Anatha Ganesh. Little finished tied for fourteenth at one under par, and Plattner climbed to a tie for seventeenth after improving by twenty-nine positions.
Senior Trevor Lewis is tied for forty-fifth at four over par, and Abuan is tied for fifty-fifth along with senior Billy Smith, who is competing as an individual.
The Rebels are three shots back from co-leaders Loyola Marymount and Texas A&M heading into Saturday’s final round.
“UNLV went bogey-free on six holes, as the entire lineup plus Smith shot par or better on the Ocean Course at Hokaula’s first five holes and the tenth,” according to event organizers. “Only one other team, St. Mary’s, matched the Scarlet & Gray’s 6-under 274 on the day.”
The final round will begin Saturday morning.
