Date and Time: Thursday, July 21, 2022 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM PST

Location:

Vegas Chamber

575 Symphony Park Ave Ste 100

Las Vegas, NV 89106

Join us on Thursday, July 21 at the Vegas Chamber for a panel conversation with successful entrepreneurs about their journey to running a successful business in Vegas from 11:30am-1pm.

Amelia is a serial entrepreneur with more than a decade's worth of small business experience in Las Vegas. She started her career as a hair and makeup artist in 2004, which she leveraged into an agency in 2011. Her suite of hair and makeup agencies now includes Amelia C & Co (bridal), BKSTG (corporate professionals & keynote services), Activated Artists (experiential marketing with body art), and ZobmiesForHire.com (SFX). She is also a partner in the newest plant-based concept in Vegas, Graze Kitchen.

Amelia’s other endeavors include thinking she could start a magazine (she blew it), getting Whole Foods to sell her designer popcorn balls (because it’s a great story and popcorn balls are delicious), and opening a restaurant during a pandemic. She has served as a two-term President of the Wedding International Professional Association, volunteered for countless organizations including her personal favorites, Shine A Light and Shannon West Homeless Youth Center, and has successfully fostered seven death-row dogs to adoption. A graduate of Leadership Las Vegas Class of 2020, Amelia is also vegan, because everyone knows that you’ll lose your V Card if you don’t bring up your vegan lifestyle at every opportunity.

Rich is always on the go, he spent 22 years in the Air Force and integrity is important to him. He co-founded D&R House of Diamonds in downtown summerlin in 2013 to help people better understand diamonds and their value. He enjoys assisting people in receiving the best price for the diamond they are interested in and being appreciated for educating customers in jewelry.

D&R House of Diamonds is a different concept to buy jewelry, as they provide customers with low over head and buy everything direct. Before venturing out to start a small business, Rich was previously the General Manager of M J Christensen Diamond Center for over 6 years. With his co-owner they have over 45 years experience in jewelry and 12 years in the valley.

At age 14 Shaundell Newsome attended the High School of Graphic Communication Arts where he learned Graphic Design, Copy Editing and Layout.  This skill allowed him to work for Lou Edna Graphics, a Christian Advertising agency and print shop in Brooklyn, New York.  Michael Collins, Owner of Lou Edna Graphics would mentor Shaundell in the business of communications.  Still a freshman in High School Newsome started a small business printing fliers for parties in his neighborhood.  Later he printed and distributed fliers for block parties, house parties and community events.

After a decade in the United the States Air Force and seven years with Station Casinos Shaundell Newsome founded Newsome Marketing Enterprises in April 2006 to provide a marketing firm for the small business owner. He views marketing and communications as his ministry. In 2008 Newsome was recognized as one of the “Top 40 under 40? business person by In Business Las Vegas and Small Business Champion of the Year for the state of Nevada by the Small Business Administration.  In 2009 Newsome Marketing faced its most challenging year as a company losing over 60% of its business during the country’s worst recession in history.  He and his family would rebound and rebrand a few years later and launch Sumnu Marketing to realize over 40% new earnings in less than five years.  Sumnu Marketing was a finalist for the Small Business of the Year in the Women/Minority Owned Small Business category in 2012.  Sumnu was awarded Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award honoree for 2014 and SBA Nevada Family Owned Business of the Year in 2015.

Today, Shaundell continues to be a strong advocate for small businesses serving on many boards and committees that support entrepreneurship and policies that impact the business community. Earlier this year he was featured on the front page of the New York Times Business section providing his perspective on why minority businesses struggle to get adequate access to capital.

He currently serves as co-chair for Small Business for America’s Future, Chairman of the Urban Chamber Las Vegas, Co-Chair for the Henderson Chamber Issues Committee and Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Board Trustee. He gradutated in the first class of the Chamber’s Leadership Advance when it was created as Leadership NLV in 2009. Despite his company facing challenges from the 2020 pandemic, Newsome feels its his ministry to work on behalf of America’s small businesses.  His advocacy has led to hundred of millions of dollars in relief to Nevada’s small businesses over the past year.
